Mirror Mirror Education was established by Claire Cooke & Aymie Backler in 2009, after meeting on The Smoking Cabinet Festival of Cabaret Film, a celebration of early cinema which included screenings, talks and performances.
The company grew out of a shared interest in science, art and the experiments that led to the birth of cinema, with our ideas informed by the history of entertainment, associated technological developments and their subsequent effects on cultural change.
We produce performance and multimedia driven experiences that incorporate little known historical facts and feats into storytelling and making activities.
Also proud members of The Magic Lantern Society, we own a slowly expanding collection of original lanterns, slides and other optical toys, often used in our shows.
Our previous clients include British Library TATE, Ikon, Milton Keynes and Whitechapel galleries, National Portrait Gallery, Museum of Childhood, Birmingham Museum and Galleries, Jewish Museum, Petrie Museum of Egyptology, Borderlines, Green Man and Flatpack festivals, Film CLUB, Phoenix Cinema, Hoxton Hall, Colchester Arts Centre, Quarterhouse, Folkestone and Home Live Art.
In 2014 Aymie left the company to pursue other projects and Mirror Mirror now works with a range of freelance storytellers, artists and facilitators.
We also became an official charity and are looking forward to the future collaborations this status will allow. Our trustees are Chris Babidge, Catherine Whitehouse, James Holcombe and Hannah Princewell.
Mirror Mirror continues to devise projects inspired by pioneering people, movements and machines that have benefited art and science simultaneously.
We also run the monthly Make & Take sessions in Bermondsey Square in association with VITRINE Gallery, see our instagram page for latest updates /makeandtakebermondseysq
